202.12D Positive PressureVentilation Flashcards
What are 7 benefits of Positive Pressure Ventilation?
- rapidly removes heat and smoke
- improves pt survivability profile
- improves search & rescue operations & loss control
- improves ability to conduct fire exstinguishment
- reduces FF heat stress
- reduces loss by smoke and fire
- reduces need of roof ventilation
T/F All offensive fire operations qualify for early application of PPV?
True
Where should PPV fans be placed on the Fire ground?
point of entry(s) from the unburned side of the fire, 12-15ft back from point of entry to create a pressure cone around door
When additional fans are needed, what is the most effective way to position fans?
in tandem, one behind the other
What are 2 major items required for effective PPV?
- an exit for the pressurized air
2. must be injected from the unburned side of fire
What is the best way to PPV an area with many openings or exit points?
As one area is cleared of smoke, that area may need to be sealed off and another exit created in another area of the structure to direct the air flow into the next area to clear
On isolated attic fires, what should be done to keep the area below the ceiling clear?
use small openings in the ceiling for water application,
with existing exit vents in place PPV fans should be used while large sections of ceilings are removed
What should be used to direct airflow from PPV in multi story / high-rise fires?
stairwells
What is the objective of PPV for exposure control?
introduce PPV ahead of a moving fire and force it back into the fire area.
What is required for PPV in large buildings?
multiple fans and close coordination with all sectors
