23
Q

Give the company profile of ConEd. - SAIFI - Rate per kwh - Revenue - Load growth - # meters and people

A

Total revenue is about $20B w/ 75% of revenue is from Electricity sales. Has SAIFI of 0.025, one of the best in the US. ConEd Company is a regulated utility under ConEd (which also has Orange & Rockland Utilties, as well as some retail and wholesale energy companies). It has the highest rates in country (2015) at $0.30/Kwh. expected demand growth is 1% per year through 2019. - 3.4 mill meters, 8 mill people

24
Q

What are some of ConEd’s key technology initiatives? (4)

A

Brooklyn load growth - capacitors, DERs, utiltlity side energy storage; Hudson Yards

25
Q

Explain the different efforts going into ConEd’s BQDM (Brooklyn-Queens Demand Mangement)

A
  • Brooklyn & Queens forecast of 69 MW overload on Brownsville Sub- so spending $150mill to procure non-traditional customer-side solutions (EE, DR, DG) - $50 mill to spend on 11 MW utiltiy side non-traditional, like energy storage at sub, for cost of ~$4.5M/MW - Also adding some capacitors to optimize powerflow for 6 MW Demand reduction
26
Q

What is the biggest real estate development in history of US, what is being build for the grid there, and how much does it cost?

A
  • largest private real estate development in the history of the US, Hudson Yards, being build on old MTA rail, west of 10th Ave between 30 & 34th streets. $10 million to island a microgrid, $90 for expense of the CHP generation (12MW, 4 engine connected in front of the meter). in stages of developing microgrid control scheme (2015)
27
Q

Who is NY’s “energy czar” and when was he appointed, and by whom?

A

Richard Kauffman, chair for energy Finance Sub-Cabinet, newly formed in January 2013 by Gov Andruew Cuomo. will have unprecedented influence over state energy agencies including NYSERDA, LIPA, NYPA, PSC

28
Q

What is REV?

A

Reforming the Energy Vision- new york’s proposal for puttin in market-based mechanisms that enable greater penetrations of renewables. 2 tracks: the first to redefine the utility companies as market-makers; the second to determine the financial model for the new markets.

29
Q

Give the company profile of ComEd’s holding company. - revenue - capacity - partner utiltities - # feeders - rates - # of NEM custs

A
  • Has the Exelon Corporation - $25B - 32,000 MW Capacity - 3 utilties (baltimore gas and ele ctric (BGE) - penn, ComEd - illoniuis and PECO- penn - ComEd - 5000 distribution feeders - ComEd rates $0.12/kwh - less than 500 NEM custs (2015)
30
Q

What is EIMA?

A

Energy Infrastructure Modernization Act of Illinois General Assembly established in 2011. address regulatory reform, infrastructure modernization, smart grid investments, reliability performance metrics. EIMA uses FERC “formula Rates” to create a predictable and repeatable rate-making process.
