2014 RC Flashcards
Rifampin mechanism of action
inhibits DNA dependent RNA polymerase
used in TB
MOA of 5-FU
pyrrimidine analog
works through inhibition of thymidylate synthase
aka blocks the synthesis of thymidine
Ant. cerebral artery supplies
medial portions of frontal and
superior medial parietal
pons and cerebellum derive from
rhomboencephalon->gives rise to metencephalon
how sulfonamides work
antibacterial sulfonamides act as competitive inhibitors of the enzyme dihydropteroate synthetase (DHPS), an enzyme involved in folate synthesis. Sulfonamides are therefore bacteriostatic and inhibit growth and multiplication of bacteria, but do not kill them.
vagus mediated secretions in the GI system
- strongest stimulant of H+ secretion
- also pepsinogen, mucus, HCo3, and intrinsic factor
what is the crista terminalis
-Vertical ridge between vena cavae orifices.
■ Sinoatrial (SA) node is located here.
■ Junction of sinus venosus and the heart in the developing embryo.
chordae tendinae and papillary muscles…
prevent valves from going into atria
DO NOT help valves close
what causes thyroid enlargment in graves
immunoglobulin antbodies to TSH receptors in thyroid
gas gangrene bacteria
clostridium perfringes
lecinithinase -destroy memrbanes
crypts of leuberkuhn are where
epithelial lining of intestine and colon
moa tetracyclin
30S subunit of microbial ribosomes. It inhibits protein synthesis by blocking the attachment of charged aminoacyl-tRNA to the A site on the ribosome. Thus, it prevents introduction of new amino acids to the nascent peptide chai
glucagon- what it does
increase BGL glycogenolysis in LIVER NOT MUSCLE inc. free fatty acids AA breakdown urea production
phosphoglycerate kinase
1-3 bisphosphoglycerate to 3- phosphoglycerate
what abducts the vocal cords
posterior cricoarytendoid
innervated by recurrent larngyeal
