2. Tissue Management II Flashcards
The decision of weather to use single or double cord technique depends on what factor
sulcus depth
In double cord technique what is the purpose of leaving in the small cord during the impression
control bleeding and helps maintain displacement
What is the purpose of the second cord in double cord technique
tissue displacement
How long should the cords be left in the sulcus before the impression
5 mins
Before removing the large cord from the sulcus you should
wet it (so you don’t rip the epithelium and induce bleeding
The small cord can only stay in during the impression under what circumstances
if it is entirely apical to the finishline
How do you know when you have adequate cord displacement
Occlusal view need to see the whole finish line, whole cord, and gingiva
-No gingiva overlapping the cord
Where should you begin placing the cord
interproximally
Cord packing instrument is angled how to pack cord
toward the root surface (consider the angulation of the long axis of the tooth)
After wetting the cord to remove it what should be done
dry the tooth/sulcus
If you can’t manage the gingival bleeding for the impression what should be done
Defer the impression
- Fabricate a good intrim
- Strict OHI
- Wait 1-2 weeks
- Consider 7-10 day use chlorhexidine
In addition to astringents what else can be done to help manage bleeding
LA with 1:50,000 epi
- Inject bleeding points
- May produce techycardia
How often is chlorhexidine recomended for use and why
1 week per month due to staining and taste alteration
