People often say they were strongly influenced by the kind of music they heard before they were old enough to have their own records. As of recently, automobiles help when families play music in the car - either from the radio or more recently the choice of certain CD’s.

Lullabies not only lull, but praise and teach cultural values.
What effect does generation have on music?
Generational mixing has merged under the influence of television and records. In the 1960’s, the pop music was thought to belong to the young but it also appealed to the older generations with acts like The Beatles drawing influences from previous generations.
What effect does gender have?
As of recent, female musicians are becoming more common. Instruments like the drums or saxophone were always assumed to be male orientated but we are now seeing many more women take up these instruments.
