What does the survival curve show?
Combines infant mortality and living into old age. Both have been improving leading to higher survival rates.
Why has health improved?
Increases in prosperity, improved standards of living, scientific discovery, innovations, illness prevention, antibiotics, hygiene, knowledge of disease transmission.
How have the causes of deaths changed?
Less deaths from respiratory, circulatory and infectious diseases. Deaths from cancer has remained constant.
What changes have their been regarding cancer?
Better treatment available, better survival rates and more screening and awareness.
What negative health impacts have been observed in recent years?
Due to industrialisation: dangerous occupations, air/water pollution, population growth meaning spread of disease is quicker
What is the cause of rising allergies?
Urbanisation, industrialisation, lack or loss of immunity to the physical environment, new and unfamiliar substances, sterile surroundings.
What are the largest behavioural risks to the UK and US?
UK: tobacco
US: diet
