2- Periodontology 1 Flashcards
What do the periodontal tissues comprise of?
- Gingival Tissues
- Root Cementum
- Periodontal Ligaments
- Alveolar bone
Define Gingivitis?
An inflammatory lesion mediated by hist-parasite interaction that remains localised to the gingival tissues and does not extend to involve the periodontal ligament, cementum or alveolar bone
Define Periodontitis?
An inflammatory lesion mediated by host-parasite interactions that result in the loss of connective tissue fibre attachment to the root surface and ultimately to alveolar bone loss.
What is periodontal attachment formed by?
cementum, periodontal ligament and alveolar bone
What is attachment loss?
loss of the normal interactions among cementum, periodontal ligament and alveolar bone due to periodontitis
What are the periodontal parameters?
- Pocket depth
- Gingival Recession
- Clinical Attachment Loss
- Bleeding on Probing
- Plaque Index
- Tooth Mobility
- Furcation Involvement
What is pocket depth?
Distance between the free gingival margin to the bottom of the sulcus/pocket.
What is gingival recession?
Distance between
