In the Sunni tradition, there are 6 articles of faith

  1. Tawhid - This includes Muslim beliefs about Allah and the supremacy of Allah’s will
  2. Beliefs about angles of Allah

  4. Beliefs about the messengers of Allah - the Rasul
  5. Akhirah and the Day of Judgements
  6. Al’Qadr (predestination)

The core beliefs are of upmost importance to Muslimes coz through them they are able to understand all that Allah wants them to know about him. Through this they are then able to worship Allah by relying on his words sent through the prophets

A

Tawhid is the most important of all Islamic beliefs and is shared by both Sunni and Shi’a Muslims. Its the belief that Allah is the 1 god, he alone created the earth and he alone sustains it

  • He is fair and just

A

Mus demonstrate a humble attitude as there is nothing that they can do without the kindness of Allah. There is no reason to be boastful; to do so would be sinful

  • Shi bel in the 12 imams chosen by A, all of whom = descendants of Muh, beg mit Ali
  • Imams are infallible and inspired by A, their role = preserve the religion of Islam
  • They protected by A from committing any sin = keeps religion pure and true
  • They interpreted the Mus (Shari’ah) law that was told to Muh by A

  • There is an objective framework of right and wrong
  • A is perfect and always acts in a way that’s right
  • Humans are able to use their reasoning to work out what is right
  • Humans should use their free will to act right
  • At Day of Judgement A will judge ppl according to this moral framework
  • A will send the righteous to heaven and the wicked to hell
  • No such thing as predestination - humans have free will which is why A can judge them

They argue that there is no objective right or wrong

Everything A does is right simply bcoz he does it

Prophet hood (risalah)

A
  • Means of comms between A and us
  • Prophet = msger, chosen by A to teach, guide and train
  • The msgers of A are themselves human and they are not to be worshipped
  • Through them, A calls all ppl to worship him alone
  • They give guidance on how to follow A and live in a way that pleases him
  • Every prophet is equal. None is more signif or import
  • The msgers have been sent to every nation at various times so that ppl can be brought back to follow A’s will
