2-EnergyStorage-Tep09 Flashcards
Why is energy storage of increasing importance?
Rapid integration of renewables, non-dispatchable
What are the different types of energy storage?
Mechanical, thermodynamic and chemical
Mention three mechanical techniques of energy storage
Pumped hydro storage, flywheel and gravity storage
Mention two forms of thermodynamic storage
Compressed air storage and thermal energy storage
Mention three techniques of chemical energy storage
Batteries, hydrogen and flow batteries
What are the main advantages of concrete S-TES?
High specific heat capacity, good mechanical properties, low change in volume due to temperature increase and good thermic resistance to fatigue
What are the advantages of groundwater TES?
Long term storage, for both heating and cooling, good thermal conductivity and good temperature range
What special chracteristics has latents heat storage, LHS?
High heat storage capacity per unit mass and small operational temperature range
What are the main requirements for PCM?
Small volume change during phase transition, suitable melting point, high latent heat, high thermal conductivity, chemical stability, affordable and available
Where can PCM be applied in buildings?
One application is in the walls. Dry walls can have parafine microcapsules. This reducses temperature fluctuations and reduces peak load.
What are the advantages of PCM Storage in buildings?
Energy efficient, improved thermal comfort, peak load reduction and sustainability
Why cant CTES be module based?
The system must meet the needs and constraints of the specific facility.
