2 • Energy And ATP Flashcards
0
Q
Synthesis of ATP
A
- Photophosphorylation (photosynthesis)
- Oxidative Phosphorylation (electron transport chain)
- Subtrate level phosphorylation (e.g.: glycolysis)
1
Q
Why do organisms need energy?
A
- Metabolism
- Movement
- Active transport
- Maintenance, repase and division
- Production of substances
- Maintenance of body temperature
2
Q
Roles of ATP
A
- Less energy released than glucose
- Smaller manageable quantities
- Immediate energy source (unstable phosphate bonds)
Source of energy for:
• Metabolic processes (build up macromolecules)
• Movement (muscle contraction)
• Active transport (changes shape of carrier cells)
• Secretion (form lysosomes)
• Activation of molecules (lowers activation energy)
