What is development?
An idea linking to improving people’s quality of life.
Aspects involve:
Economic development
Social development
Political development
How is development measured?
Gross Dosmestic Product (GDP) per capita (per person).
This is the total value of goods and services produced within a country in a year, divided by the number of people in the country.
Gross National Income (GNI) per capita
Similar to GDP, however it includes the wealth created outside of the country by its companies and corporations.
Human Development Index (HDI)
This considers aspects of both social and economic development, but no environmental considerations. It gives each country a score based on the average life expectancy, education and income of the people in that country.
