2. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Flashcards
What is the role of a leader during CPR?
most experieced, assembles team and delegates roles, situation monitoring, calls out drug orders*, leads debriefW
What is the role of the compressor
Chest compression only, switches every 2min
What is the role of the ventilator during CPR
intubates animal in lateral, hooks up O2 source, ventilates, can switch with compressor
What is the role of the recorder in CPR
records EVERYTHING, assesses entire situation, times 2 mins for switching, leader can do this role if needed
What is the role of drug handler during CPR
places IV catheter
Fills drugs as per leader and communicates to recorder, also assesses entire situation and available for additional help if needed
What is closed loop communication?
Clear, direct comments
start comment with name of person you are addressing
Person being addressed will repeat back what they heard
you then confirm what they stated
all others can listen and speak up if they hear an error
this method reduces chances of error in a high stress situation
Give an example of a closed loop communication
DVM: “Jack, I need you to place an IV catheter and inject 0.05
mg/kg Atropine IV”
RVT: “Placing IV catheter and injecting 0.05 mg/kg Atropine IV
now”
DVM: “Good. Let me know when that is done.”
RVT places catheter: “Catheter is placed and I am now injecting
0.05 mg/kg of Atropine.”
What is an example of a closed loop communication with a correction
DVM: “Jack, I need you to place an IV catheter and inject 0.05 mg/kg
Atropine IV.”
RVT: “Placing IV catheter and injecting 0.5 mg/kg Atropine IV now”
RVT2: “Did you say 0.5 mg/kg? Dr. Smith, can you confirm that Atropine
dose please?”
DVM: “Atropine dose is 0.05 mg/kg.”
RVT: “Correcting that – drawing up 0.05 mg/kg Atropine now.”
