02 - Algebraic Techniques Flashcards
What is a pronumeral?
A letter in an expression or equation that represents an unknown quantity
What is a term?
It is either a constant or a coeffecient
What is an expression?
Algebraic terms with operations between them.
What is a coefficient?
It is the number placed before a pronumeral
What is a like term?
Two terms with the same pronumeral
What is a constant?
A number without a pronumeral.
How do you add or subtract fractions?
You must convert them by multiplying the terms so that the fractions have the same deominator
How do you divide a fraction?
You must multiply it by it’s reciprocal
How do you simplify algebraic fractions?
By factorising where possible and cancelling out any common factors.
How do you multiply algebraic fractions
You must first simplify the fractions, then multiply them.
How do you factorise an expression?
You must find the highest common factor of the two or more terms.
