A

Varices are veins that are enlarged or swollen. The esophagus is the tube that connects the throat to the stomach. When enlarged veins occur on the lining of the esophagus, they are called esophageal varices.

What is a fistula?

A

A fistula is an abnormal opening that connects two or more organs or spaces inside or outside the body. For example, a fistula can develop between the bowel and the bladder, or between the bowel and the skin. Cancer fistulas are rare.
