Plastic Elements:
A general term used to describe any of the visual arts.
Contour:
Boundary lines that emphasis form.
Mass:
The solid content of a Three-Dimentional form.
Geometric Shapes:
Are formed by straight or curved lines that progress regualarly according to mathmatical laws.
Organic Shapes:
Derive from natural forms such as plants or animals. They tend to be curvilinear and irregular.
Positive Shapes:
Filled Areas in the design
Negative Shapes:
Unfilled Areas in the Design
Figure Ground Relationship:
In two-dimensional art, seeing images having been applies over a background
Value:
The relative lightness or darkness of color
Chiaroscuro:
An italian term for light and shade
Archromatic:
Black, white, and other mixture of gray
Hue:
Wavelength properties by which we give colors names.
Monochromatic:
A single hue and its value scale
Primary Colors:
The basic hues that mix all other colors
Secondary Colors:
The results of mixing primary colors together
Tertiary Colors:
The results of mixing primary & secondary colors together.
Analogous Colors:
Hues lying next to one another on the color wheel
Saturation:
The brightness, dullness, or purity of a color
Impasto:
Thickly applied paint
Trompe l’ Oil:
To “fool” or decieve the eye
Perspective:
A formula for protecting an illusion of the three-dimensional world onto a two-dimensional surface.
Atmospheric Perspective:
A reduction of value contrast in depth
Kinetic:
Art that incorporates movement as part of it’s expression.
Mobile:
A sculpture with moveable parts set in motion by wind currents or mechanical propulsion.
