Stage 1
Rear-facing
Things on stage 1
From birth-at least 1 yr old and 9kg (20lbs)
Place in back seat
Position centre-rear
Rear-facing as long as possible
Stage 2
Forward facing with tether
Things in stage 2
Must be over 1 yr old and over 9kg (20lbs)
Up to at least 18kg (40lbs)
Place in back seat
May remain rear-facing if allowed by manufacturers weight limits
Always use tether strap
Stage 3
Booster seat
Things in stage 3
Must be over 18kg (40lbs)
Required until at least 9 yr old or 145cm (4’9”)
Place in back seat
Booster is used with a lap/shoulder seatbelt
Position lap belt low over hip bones and shoulder belt over shoulder and in front of chest
Booster seat
Ensures proper seatbelt fit. Raises the child to correctly position the adult seatbelt across structures of the chest and pelvis.
Stage 4
Seatbelt only
Things in stage 4
Recommended to keep children in back seat until 12 yr old
The lap belt should fit low over pelvic bones
Shoulder belt should fit over the shoulder and snug across chest
Ignition- lock
Steering is locked and ignition is off
Ignition- off
Ignition is off but steering is unlocked
Ignition- Acc
Ignition is off but some electrical components may be used
eg. Radio
Ignition- on
Ignition is on
Ignition- start
Turn to this position to start the engine, then release switch so that it returns to the on position

2 types of transmissions: automatic, standard
Automatic transmission
Automatically chooses the most efficient gear.
Standard transmission
Always used with a clutch. The driver chooses the best gear. Built in three-, four-, five-, or six-speed models.
Gears- P
Park: use when starting the vehicle and when parked. Locks the transmission
Gears- R
Reverse: use when backing up, turns reverse (white) lights on
Gears- N
Neutral: use when vehicle stops or when starting engine.
Gears- D
Drive: use for normal forward driving
Gears - 1
First gear: use when pulling heavy loads or when going up or down steep hills. (Speeds 10-15km/h)
Gears-2
Second gear: use when driving hills or when driving on snow or ice. (speeds 10-15km/h)
Gears-3
Third gear: use for speeds between 30-60km/h
Gear-4
Fourth gear: use for highway speeds on 4 speed models
Gear-5
Fifth gear: use for highway cruising on 5 speed models
Gears-6
Sixth gear: use for highway cruising on 6 speed models
Gear-O
Overdrive: use at speeds over 40km/h to save fuel
Lights- first positon
Controls the tail lights, parking lights, and side-marker lights.
Also dashboard and license plate lights.
