2/5 Flashcards
what happens in a action force?
an explosion pushes gasses out from the bottom of the rocket.
when can friction be a problem?
friction can be a problem in bike chains because the bike chain can get stiff making it hard to pedal.
if the forces are unbalanced will the rocket accelerate or decelerate?
accelerate
where does friction act between?
friction acts between moving surfaces.
what does friction stop?
from objects from moving.
what are the two things that balance the rocket when it is on the ground?
force of gravity and the upwards push from the ground.
what is the name of the upwards force on a rocket?
thrust.
at lift off what is greater then the rockets force off gravity?
the upward thrust
in a real rocket where does the explosion push out from?
the bottom of the rocket.
give 3 things friction can be reduced by?
1) lubrication
2) decreasing surface area
3) layer of air
where can friction be useful?
friction can be useful in between car tyres and brakes to slow it down.
what will continue the rocket from accelerating?
as long as the thrust is bigger than the force of gravity.
what does stationary mean?
to stay in place.
if the forces are unbalanced what way does the rocket accelerate?
upwards.
what is a reaction force?
it is the gases that push the rocket upwards.
