What is the Pulmonary Alveoli?
2 small cavities grouped in bundles
Surrounded by blood vessels
Where does the oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange take place?
Through the membranes of the Alveoli
Where does the oxygen go once it’s to the Alveoli?
The blood takes it
Where are Alveoli located?
In the Bronchials
What do Alveoli provide?
A large surface area for oxygen absorption
What is Inspiration?
Taking in air through the nose and mouth
What is Expiration?
Releasing air through the nose or mouth
What does the Respiratory Center of the brain do?
Controls the movements of respiratory muscles
What body parts move during breathing?
Muscles of the ribcage and Diaphragm contract lifting the ribcage outwards
Where does air travel?
Through the respiratory tract to the Pulmonary Alveoli at the end of the Bronchials
