Mirage
Book Sentence: “Then, at the end of the afternoon; the mirage subsided and the horizon became level and blue and clipped as the sun declined.”
Definition: an optical phenomenon.
My Sentence: Because they were dying of thirst, the group of friends in the desert thought they saw water, but it was just a mirage.
Blatant
Book Sentence: “The glittering sea rose up, moved apart in planes of blatant impossibility; the coral reef and the few stunted palms that clung to the more elevated parts would float up into the sky, would quiver, be plucked apart, run like raindrops on a wire or be repeated as in an odd succession of mirrors.”
Definition: extremely obvious.
My Sentence: Do you even have to ask? It is extremely blatant.

Book Sentence: “Here, invisible yet strong, was the taboo of the old life.”
Definition: something that is normally shunned by a society.
My Sentence: It is a taboo subject for many people.
Sinewy
Book Sentence: “Beside the pool his sinewy body held up a mask that drew their eyes and appalled them.”
Definition: related to muscular, strong, tendons.
My Sentence: He has a sinewy arm.
Malevolently
