Scruffy

Adj: temporary and of low quality, but used because of a sudden need
Example:
Thousands of refugees are living in makeshift camps.
Ponytail
N: a hairstyle in which the hair is tied up high at the back of the head so that it hangs down like a horse’s tail
Corduroy
N: a thick cotton material with soft raised parallel lines, used especially for making clothes
Pinafore
N: a dress that does not cover the arms and is usually worn over another piece of clothing that does cover the arms

N: the feeling that there is no hope and that you can do nothing to improve a difficult or worrying situation

Example:

N: someone who is very interested in and enthusiastic about a particular subject
Example:

Adj: extremely good
Example:
He scored with a cracking shot into the back of the goal.

Example:

Ominous
Adj: suggesting that something unpleasant is likely to happen
Example:
-There was an ominous silence when I asked whether my contract was going to be renewed.
-The engine had been making an ominous sound all the way from my parents’ house.

Idiom: to have a talent, skill, etc., that helps one.
Example:
-She’s not as young as some of the other athletes, but experience helps, and she has that going for her.
-You should be more confident in yourself. You have a lot going for you!

V: to move something somewhere using a brush or your hand
Example:
Jackie brushed the hair out of her eyes.

N: a very small piece of bread, cake, or biscuit
