1st Unit Flashcards
What is a tissue
A group of cells with a common origin that has been modified to perform
particular functions in the body is known as a tissue.
What are the two types of tissues
- Plant tissues
- Animal tissues
what are the two types of plant tissues
- Meristematic tissues
- Permanent tissues
What are known as meristematic tissue
The tissues with the cells that divide actively by mitosis to produce new cells are called Meristematic tissues.
Name three features of meristematic tissues
- No inter cellular spaces
- Tissue consists of small living cells
- A large number of mitochondria are present
What are the 3 types of meristematic tissues
- Apical
- Lateral
- Intercalary
Location of apical meristem
Tip of shoot system, root system and axillary buds
what is a permanent tissue
A tissue that lost its ability to divide and specialized to perform a particular function
is known as a permanent tissue.
what are the two types of permanent tissues
Simplex and complex
What are simplex permanent tissues
One type of cells collected together
What are complex permanent tissues
Different types of cells collected together
What are the three types of permanent tissues
- Parenchyma
- Collenchyma
- Schlerenchyma
