2) In early years, he was trained as a violinist, developing excellent skills and a lifelong passion for the violin.
3) At age 27, became a member of the SS.
Adolf Eichmann
1) Nicknamed “the little Jew” by his classmates.
2) He helped Reinhard organize the Wannsee conference in Berlin during which the plan for extermination of the entire Jewish population of Europe and the Soviet Union was formulated.
3) In 1939, appointed head of the Gestapo section IV B4 of the new Reich main security office.
Heinrich Himmler
1) one of the most powerful men in nazi Germany; he led the SS and Gestapo and was out in charge of organizing the mass extermination of Jews and others in extermination camps
2) In 1940 Himmler reorganized the SS and turned it into the Waffen-SS which within six months numbered over 150,000 men.
3) In his speeches he made it clear that he wasn’t particularly anti Semitic
Julius Streicher
1) Had a low IQ, although his newspaper and speaking tours made him one of the best known Nazi leaders in Germany.
2) In 1940 he was deprived of all party offices after printing untrue stories about Hermann Goering.
Rudolph Hess
1) 1) Best known for his surprise flight to Scotland on May 10, 1941 in which he attended to negotiate peace with the British but which resulted in his capture and long term imprisonment.
2) Considered to be the number 3 man in Hitler’s Germany.
3) While in prison, he took dictation for Hitler’s book, Mein Kamph
Albert Speer
1) A german architect and national socialist (Nazi) leader.
2) Became official architect after Hitler came power.
Ernst Rohm
1) Represented the militant wing of the Nazi party as the chief organizer of the party militia known as the S.A.
2) He and the entire SA command were executed.
What is the treaty of Versailles? How was it used by Nazis to gain popularity among German people?
Treaty is ends WW1, Germany loses 13% of land and overseas colonies, German army is reduced, Air Force was disbanded, Nancy was limited, Germany had to admit for starting the war, and Germany had to pay war reparations.
Why was the Great Depression so bad in Germany? How did nazis capitalize on the economic depression?
Because it led to NSDAP (national socialist German workers party) which was very unpopular. Hyperinflation was very bad and unemployment rates were high. The Nazi party was then created as a solution to the hyperinflation. Nazi party blamed Jews for hyperinflation and Hitler promised Germans employment so that’s why everyone liked the Nazi political party. Nazi party made good use of the economic depression by promising people jobs and blaming the Jews for unemployment.
What is the Beer Hall Putsch of 1923? How did Hitler use it to spread Nazi philosophy?
It was a failed coup (sudden over throw of a government) by Hitler. He was jailed for high treason. He used it to gain attention by the people in Germany since his name was in newspapers. From there, he created his book Mein Kampf meaning “my struggle”. The final benefit that accrued to Hitler was the insight that the path to power was through legitimate means rather than revolution or force. After going to jail, Hitler changes his idea of gaining power by now using the government system.
What is anti-semitism? What are some reasons why Jews are disliked throughout the centuries?
Anti-semitism is is hostility, prejudice, or discrimination against Jews. Reasons Jews are disliked: 1)Jews killed Jesus 2) Jews have a history of being picked on 3)Bible favors Jews/God’s people
4) Middle Ages - Black Death 5) Jews are rich. Jews are bankers, lawyers, and doctors. They are educated.
What is the Enabling Act? What crisis was created to push the legislation (law) through the Reichstag?
The Enabling Act gives Hitler all the power and does away with the constitution. The Reichstag fire which was “started” by a 12 year old boy. He blamed this boy for it and gained power through this.
