What does primary survey consist off
Any obvious life threatening conditions
AIRWAY- resp rate, rythem, audible noises, effort of inspiration, free from obstruction
BREATHING-
CIRCULATION- Heart rate, pulse quality, CRT, mucous membrane color, Pulse quality, deficit,
Neurological Assessment
Signs of respiratory distress
Cyanotic Open mouth breathing Abducted elbows Extended neck Paradoxical abdo movement Dilated pupils Anxious facial expressions
What to look for during the neurological assessment
Gait Mentation- alert, abtunded, stuporous, coma Pupil size, reactivity, symmetry Absence or presence of palpebral symmetry Facial symmetry Nystagmus Gag reflex Anal tone

Weakness
Definition of Plegia
Paralysis
Definition of Quadriplegia
Paralysis of all 4 limbs
Paraplegia
Paralysis of 2 limbs
Hemiplegia
Paralysis of 1 side of the body
Hypermetria
Exaggerated limb movement
Action of Primary survey
Start CPR if no pulse/ heart beat or breathing
Administer 02 if dysponeic or in shock
IV fluids
Pain relief
Second survey consists of:
Work up from nose to tail
CPR action:
Ideally 100 - 120 compressions per minute
Singular person 30 compressions too 2 breaths
IPPV 10 breaths per minute / 1 every 6 seconds
Capnograph
Ideal C02 reading is 15mmHg
