1D Motion Flashcards
What is Mechanics?
The study of the relationship between force, matter and motion.
What is Kinematics?
The mathematical description of motion.
What is dynamics?
Causes of motion.
What is the Reference Frame?
The mathematical coordinate system used to describe space and time.
What is Position?
The location of a particle, relative to a chosen reference point.
What is distance?
The length of a faith travelled by a particle.
What is displacement?
The change in position of a particle.
What is Velocity?
The distance covered per unit time in a particular direction.
What is speed?
Distance cover per unit time.
What is average speed?
The displacement of a particle within a specified time interval.
What does the slope of a Distance-Time Graph show?
The Average Speed
What is average velocity?
A particle’s displacement in a particular direction divided by the time interval.
What does it mean when average velocity is positive?
Particle is moving right.
What does it mean when the average velocity is negative?
The particle is moving left.
What does it mean when the average velocity is 0?
The particle is stationery.
What is instantaneous velocity?
The limit of average velocity as the time interval approaches 0.
Formula of Instantaneous Velocity?
V(x)= lim
🔺➡️0 (🔺X/🔺t)
What is acceleration?
Rate of change of velocity over time.
What is the Limit?
A value that you can get infinitely closer to but can never achieve for it does not exist.
What is average acceleration?
The total change in velocity in a given time, divided by the time interval take for the change.
What is instantaneous acceleration.
The limit of average acceleration as the time interval approaches 0.
Formula for instantaneous acceleration?
a(t)= lim
🔺➡️0 (🔺v/🔺t)
What is constant acceleration?
Change of velocity at the same rate.
Formula for constant acceleration?
V(f)^2 = V(0)^2 + 2a🔺X
What is free fall?
The natural phenomenon of downward motion of an object with no initial force or velocity due to gravity.
What is the acceleration of gravity?
9.8m/s^2
5 Formulas of motion.
- V(f) = X/t
- V(f)= 1/2 (V(f)+V(0))t
- 🔺X = V(0)t+1/2at^2
- V(f)= V(0) + at
- V(f)^2 = V(0)^2+2a🔺X
3 formulas of Free Fall?
- 🔺Y= V(0)t-1/2gt^2
- V(f)= V(0)-gt
- V(f)^2 = V(0)^2-2g🔺Y
