1D Kinematics Flashcards
Solve for vf
vf2 = vi2 + 2aΔx
Created by Colletti
vf = √( vi2 + 2aΔx)
What is average speed?
The average speed of an object over the entire course of its journey.
What is instantaneous speed?
The speed of an object over a very short interval of time.
What does the slope of a straight position vs time graph represent?
The average velocity.
How do you find the instantaneous velocity at a certain time from a position vs time graph?
Draw a tangent to the line at that time and find the slope of the tangent.
Define acceleration.
- The rate of change in velocity.
- meters/second/second
- m/s2
What is the difference between speed and velocity?
Speed is a scalar and velocity is a vector.
What is acceleration, a scalar or a vector?
vector (direction matters)
What does the slope of a velocity vs time graph represent?
acceleration
Δx
answer with as many connecting concepts as possible

- displacement, change in position
- symbol in an equation
- xf - xi

Solve for Δt
a = Δv/Δt
Created by Colletti
Δt = Δv/a
Solve for vi
vf2 = vi2 + 2aΔx
Created by Colletti
vi = √(vf2 - 2aΔx )
Solve for Δx
vf2 = vi2 + 2aΔx
Created by Colletti
Δx = (vf2 - vi2) / 2a
Solve for Δt
vf = vi + aΔt
Created by Colletti
Δt = (vf - vi) / a
What is g?
- the acceleration due to gravity
- 9.8 m/s2 downward
