1.b. Coastal landscape systems are influenced by a range of physical factors Flashcards
Wind
Formation:
waves- the undulations on the surface of the sea driven by the wind
Height- difference between the crest( the highest part) and the trough( lowest part) of a wave
Length- difference between crests
Frequency- number of waves pm
Development and breaking:
1. wave enters shallow water
2. friction with seabed increases
3.the wave slows as it drags along the bottom
4.wavelenght decrecreases+ succsesive waves start bunching up
5.wave in increases in height
6.plunges/breaks against shoreline
constructive:
-low
-long length
-low frequency 6-8pm
-Movement is slowly/gradualy being moved up the beach= berm
Destructive:
-high
- steep
-high frequency
very little material moved up the beach= storm beaches
