1a Transponders Flashcards
This is a radio, radar or sonar transceiver that automatically transmits a signal upon reception of a designated incoming signal
Transponders
What are the two types of transponders
Active and passive
This type of transponder has a reflected signal and must be used with an active sensor computer
Passive
This type of transponder is used for airborne communication
Active
There are 2 active types of transponders, the second one is used for what
Satellite and network communication
This operates on the principal of transmitting a narrow beam of RF
PSR primary surveillance radar
This does NOT require a reply from the aircraft
Primary surveillance radar
PSR
This DOES require a reply from the aircraft
Secondary surveillance radar
SSR
This operates on the principle of transmitting interrogation signals from the ground station to the aircraft’s transponder
Secondary surveillance radar SSR
This system combines the PSR and SSR systems to give total range of information
ATCRBS Air traffic control radar beacon system
This component contains the primary control functions
Control unit
This allows one antenna to be used for both transmitting & receiving
Diplexer
This determines validity of incoming signals
decoder
This generates a reply signal
Encoder
This is used to produce a RF reply pulse train at a predetermined frequency for the antenna to transmit
