New Zealand has a number of legislation that are relevant to employment relationships including:
Employment Relations Act 2000, Holidays Act 2003, Wages Protection Act 1983, Minimum Age Act 1983, Privacy Act 2020, Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 etc. A full list can be found here at Employment New Zealand’s government website, (Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment).
as an employer you are responsible for ensuring that your employees receive their employment rights. Minimum employee rights and minimum employment rights and responsibilities are set by Employment New Zealand in line with New Zealand’s employment laws. Some key requirements for practice employment are having a written employment agreement, right to work in New Zealand, and meeting or surpassing the minimum wage rates for all employees. Note as an employer you must keep up to date with changes to the minimum wage rates and ensure employees on the minimum wage are getting their increase.
