Describe the negatives of life in the 1930s for black Americans (6)

A

Hardest hit by the depression as were already very poor and worked in the poorest industries
Roosevelt gave money to states governments to run schemes so southern states spent most of the money on white people
Blacks were ‘last hired, first fired’
Segregation continued in the south
CCC camps were segregated and black workers got less pay
AAA was bad for black farmers
Discrimination in the TVA
Jim Crow Laws: segregation constitutional provided there were equal facilities, rights linked to literacy

A

FDR opened the ‘black cabinet’ due to NAACP
1 million black people got relief through New Deal
PWA and FERA provided relief
Large share of housing in slum clearance projects, some given responsibility in the projects
