1.8 Flashcards

1
Q

lactate matabolism

A

pyruvate is converted into lactate.

this conversion involves the transfer of hydrogen to pyruvate in order to produce lactate.

this regenerates the NAD needed to maintain the ATP production through glycolosis

Q

Skeletal muscle brings about the movement of the body. There are two classifications of muscle fibres:

A

Q

slow twitch

A

Contract relatively slowly but

can sustain contractions for

longer.

good for endurance Marathon running.

Aerobic respiration provides

ATP

Many mitochondria

Large blood supply

Storage fuel is fat

Large quantity of myoglobin ( carries and stores oxygen )

Q

lactate to pyruvate

A

lactate accumlates in the muscles causing an oxygen debt and muscle fatigue
the oxygen dept is repaid when the exercise is complete allowing respiration to provide the energy to covert lactate back into pyruvate into glucose in the liver
