How are wooden fixed propellers stored in a 3 months period and why?
In a horizontal position to ensure even moisture distribution.
How are propellers stored for 3 months, cleaned?
Mild solution of soap and water.
What is the ideal storage temp between for 3 month storage period?
10 to 20 degrees C
How do metal fixed pitch propeller 3 month storage differ?
Requires additional frugal corrosion inspection.
What must be done to metal fixed pitch propellers when stored for 3 months?
The pitch change mechanism needs to be exercised by circulate oil prior to engine shut down.
What must be done if a propeller is to be stored for Upto 6 months?
Pitch change mechanism must be flushed using inhibiting oil and then cover with waxed paper.
For propeller stored Upto 6 months, what must be done to external parts?
Must be treated with lanolin or an approved anti corrosion treatment and inspected regularly.
What must be noted about lanolin?
That it doesn’t come in contact with the de-iced boots.
For uninstalled propellers stored for Upto 3 months, how often must the propeller be turned?
The hub must be filled with oil and the propeller turned every 2 weeks.
How are uninstalled metal propellers stored for Upto 3 months?
In an upright position on stands where the hub is supported by a mandrel.
For a 6 month storage period, what must be done if the propeller blades have pre-loaded bearings?
When?
Blades must be rotated to prevent bearing brinelling.
Must be done at the 6 month point.
Storage Upto 12 months for blades, what differs?
Pre loaded blades require exercising after 6 months and 9 months.
Blades must be removed at 12 and inspected.
What must be done at the 3 year storage stage?
Must be sent for overhaul.
From storage over 12 months, what must be done?
Bearing must be removed and inspected every 12 months.
Propeller re-inhibited every 12 months.
How does storage of uninstalled dismantled propeller differ?
If it’s in its original packing, it does not require re-inhibiting every 12 months.
What do all parts held in storage require?
A form 1 and a valid CRS.
