Q

Explain everything about gastrin

A

It is a hormone released in response to protein in the stomach. It enhances the secretion of HCl land pepsinogen, promotes gastric and ileal motility, relaxes the ileocecal sphincter, and induces mass movements in the colon. It is also trophic to the small intestine and stomach mucosa, helping maintain the digestive tract lining. Gastrin secretion is inhibited by excess acid in the stomach as well as the presence of acid in the duodenum.

Q

Explain the role of secretin in detail

A

Its release is triggered by acid in the duodenum, it inhibits gastric emptying and secretion, stimulating the pancreas to release sodium bicarbonate to neutralise the acid, along with CCK they are trophic to the exocrine pancreas.

Q

Explain the role of CCK in detail

A

It is release in response to fat and protein being in the duodenum, it inhibits motility and secretion, stimulates the exocrine pancreas to release digestive enzymes, causing bile release from the gall bladder to aid fat digestion, and regulates foos intake by pormoting satiety.

Q

Explain the role of GIP in detail

A

It is released by the duodenum, it primarily stimulates insulin release in response to nutrients in the digestive tract, facilitating the body’s ability to process and store these nutrients.
