• Instrument of Govt:
  → Dec 1653: Lambert (w/ approval from cromwell) carried out the military coup of the NA to put forward the FPP - this instantly made the FPP illegitimate as they used military force to try and achieve authority.
• Used force to assert power over MPs- led to discussions of the return of monarchy in the Convention Parl 25th April 1660.
  → after suppressing ‘Booth’s rising’ he introduced the ‘Derby petition’ which increased army power (e.g. all army leaders should be promoted to the rank of General)
  → Lambert’s Committee Of Safety, set up after his soliders surrounded Parl building and denying rump MPs entry on 13th Oct 1659, showed his illegitimacy so much that Monck had to forcibly shut him down and evidently, restore monarchy.
