Q

How does a peptide Bond form

A

When amino acid monomers join together to form a di-peptide during a condensation reaction.

The two amino and then become linked by a new peptide bond between the carbon atom and in of amino acid and the nitrogen atom the other.

Q

Tertiary structure of proteins

A

Secondary structure is folded further different bonds are formed

Disulfide bridges

Ionic bonds( friend between any carboxyl and amino groups not involved in forming peptide bonds) weaker than disulfide bonds so easily broken by pH changes

Hydrogen bonds - numerous but easily broken

Q

What is the test for proteins

A

Place a sample of solution in a fat tube add an equal volume of NaOH ( sodium hydroxide) solution at Rtp

Add a few drops of dilute copper sulfate solution., mix gently

Purple coloration indicated a positive presence of peptide bond as it detects the peptide bonds, if no presence it remains blue
