POS - reduction in use of paper, laptops allow people to work from home. Computers manage renewable technology

What is the data protection act?
Every organisation holding personal data must register and disclose what data they have and why

Storage - kept no longer than needed
Security - must keep data safe
Accountability - take responsibility for how data is used
What is the computer misuse act?
Criminal offence to make any unauthorised access to computer material with bad intent
What is the copyright, designs and patents act?
Under the act it is illegal to copy, modify or distribute software without permission. Most commercial software need a licence
What is proprietary software?
Source code kept secret
Costs money to buy
Product is fully tested
Regular upgrades
What is opensource software?
Source code is available so others can access it and change it. May be free. Usaully only community support available. Can be installed on as many computers as necessary
