quality control definition
a range of checks, tests and processes employed by manufactures to ensure their product meets a certain acceptable standard.
quality assurance definition
checks quality of all systems on production line, staff training and quality monitoring. maintaining a desired level of quality in a product, by a series of checks carried out at each stage. designed to ensure products are free of faults.
what does quality assurance entail.
involves regular inspections that test and monitor, quality, accuracy and if product is fit for purpose. from design stage through to manufacture.
how is ICT used in QC
used to ensure components are the correct type, size and positioned correctly. can also be used in testing to ensure it is to the correct standard before distribution.
how is ICT used in QA
used to ensure that staff training, administrative procedures and quality monitoring of the product at various stages of manufacture, to ensure highest standard. also used to gain consumer feedback to ensure satisfaction.
ways of measuring devices for quality control
size and fit of parts is a common inspection. done using gauges of a set size to check quality rather than a ruler.
3 characteristics of fixtures for QC
allow manufacture to repeatedly test a product or sample material under similar conditions.
using a specific fixture to hold the material or sample for more accurate results.
fixtures can be mechanical clamps, pneumatic or hydraulic and allow manufacture to test the product.
jigs for QC definition
when holes need to be drilled in the same position repeatedly for hinges and fittings jigs are used. jigs are a fixed frame which allows the operator to quickly place the door in position for drilling to ensure speed of operation, accuracy and repeatability thus assisting QC.
templates for QC definition
for example a very accurate profile of a guitar is generated in the form of templates. these templates are then placed on selected woods, drawn around and cut using table saws and routers. templates aid accuracy and ensure consistency during manufacture thus assisting QC
