1.5 forces Flashcards
Define force and its SI unit
force is a push or pull exerted by one object to another force
unit is Newton (N)
what are the different type of forces
weight
upthurst
tension
thurst
air resistance
electrostatic force
magnetic force
contact force
friction
Define newton’s first law of motion
Newton’s first law of motion states that the object will remain at stationary if it was stationary before and the object will continue to move at the same velocity if it was moving
Define newton’s second law of motion
Newton’s second law of motion states that the acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the applied force for a fixed mass and inversely proportional to the mass for a fixed force
Define newton’s third law of motion
Newton’s thrid law of motion states that whenever two bodies interact the forces they exert on each other are equal and opposite
Define resultant force
may change the velocity of an object by changing its direction of motion or its speed
equation of force
force = mass × acceleration or
F = ma
