Protect Rest Ice Compress Elevate (Support)
To use a external compression wrap
Distal to Proximal
Adding this to an elastic wrap can help add compression to it
U or J shaped pad
Functions of External compression
- Pushes fluid toward to the hear
- Pushes arterial blood into the extremity
Intermittent Sequential Graded Compression
- MC
- Inflated for minutes then deflated then repeated hours per hour
Elevation of the heart level significantly reduced edema by
20 minutes
Other support ways:
- Nutritional
- Education
- Referral for emtional support
- Bracing, taping, crutches
These are used for support or assist when patient is unable to walk or bear weight on one extremity

- 6” from outer margin of shoe
- 2’ in front of shoe
- 1-2” below anterior axillary fold
- elbow flexed to 30degrees
