14.1 survival & response Flashcards
1
Q
what is a stimulus?
A
detectable change in internal / external environment that leads to a response
2
Q
what are receptors specific to?
A
specific to 1 type of stimulus
3
Q
what does the effector do?
A
produces response
4
Q
what is a taxes response?
A
response to directional stimulus -> motile organisms move towards favourable stimulus / away from unfavourable stimulus
5
Q
what are some examples of taxes response?
A
- algae move towards light (for photosynthesis)
- earthworm moves away from light (conserve H2O, find food & avoid predators)
6
Q
what is a kinesis response?
A
response when organism changes speed of moving & rate of changing direction
-> increase rate of turning to increase chance of returning to a favourable environment
7
Q
what are some examples of stimuli for kinesis?
A
temperature & humidity (less directional)
