Q

Temperature and thermal equilibrium

A

If one obiect is hotter than another there is a net flow of thermal energy from the hotter object into the colder one.

When two objects are in thermal equilibrium there is no net flow of thermal energy between them.

Q

what is The Zeroth Law of Thermodynamics

A

if two objects are each in thermal equilibrium
with athird, then all three are in thermalequilibrium with each other. In
other words, if both A and C are in thermal equilibrium with B, then Ais in thermal equilibrium with C.This means that all three objects are at the same temperature.

Q

Absolute temperature scale / thermodynamic temperature scale

A

0 K = 273.16 °C

change in 1k is the same as change in 1°C

Q

Describe the Kinetic model of solids

A

regularly arranged and packed closely together,
with strong electrostatic forces of attraction between them

holding them in fixed position, but can vibrate so have kinetic energy

Q

Describe the kinetic model of liquids

A

still closely packed, but have more kinetic energy than in solids, they can change position and flow past each other.

Q

Describe the kinetic model of Gases

A

With negligible electrostatic force they are much futher apart and can move past each other, unless they collide with each other or the container walls. They move in random directions with different random speeds.
