What does Dismissal mean
can be dismissed if they have breached their contract of employment and their contrast is ended - this is a choice for the employer and not the employee.
What does Redundancy mean
Redundancies costs a business money as the business needs to pay a minimum redundancy payment to employees that have been with the firm for at least 2 years. Is the termination of their position within the company.
What is a full time or part time contract mean?
employees that work full time usually work at least 35 hours a week and part time staff works fewer hours and can be beneficial for firms as it means they’ve got more staff who could come in to cover any absent workers.
Define muliti skilled in flexible workforce
means a business can employ fewer workers, as it doesn’t need to hire and train a different worker for every different job aspect. This can lower the firms recruitment costs. Can increase motivation as employees have a more variety in their job leading to increased productivity
Define Zero Hour contracts
a firm employs a worker but does not offer them guaranteed hours. This means that staff only work when they are needed but staff are under no obligation to accept work so could be hard for employers to find enough staff in busy times
Define Permanent or Temporary ( fixed term) contracts
a permanent contract has no end date, whereas temporary does and this is a benefit for the business as they can be issued to cover a temporary increase in need for a particular job in need for a particular job.
Define Shift Work
this used when a job role needs filling for more hours in a day and this can be completed by a single worker and the working day is divided to shifts. However working night shifts can be hard for employees.
Define Home working
employees can work from home same or all days of the week the employee can save on travel costs and can work around external commitments. Employers may gain from freeing up desk and office space for other workers.
Define Outsourcing
business can outsource some tasks to external businesses for example they could get other businesses to assemble a product for them or produce marketing materials.

what is the selection process involving assessing candidates
Interviews - are the most common way of choosing candidates, can be interviewed one to one or by a panel of interviewers, phone interviewsare thought to be less effective than face - to - face interviews
Assessment Days - some organisations use this to help them test candidates, can include a range of activites., can include psychometric testing which assesses candidates.
In - tray exercises - is where a candidate is given a scenario in whcih they play a member of staff and been given a list of tasks that need completing can include emails, meetings. They have to put the tasks in order of importance and say what action should be taken
What are the Pro’s of internal recruitment
- candidates already know the business, and the business knows the candidates
- Short and cheap process
- motivates workers to go for a promotion
What are the con’s of internal recruitment
- leaves a vacancy in another department
- can use resentment among colleagues who aren’t selected
What are the Pro’s of External recuitment
- brings in fresh new ideas
- brings in experience from other organisations
- Large number of applicants
