what is the digestive system
a group of organs working together to break down food
What nutrients are in most the food you eat
large molecules, like lipids and proteins

food is chewed and mixed with saliva, teeth help break down into smaller chunks

What nutrient isn’t digested
Fibre however it adds bulk to the food
passing into blood
the small intestine needs to absorb the nutrient before undigested food passes out the body

What happens during digestion
Large molecules are broken down into small molecules and pass into the bloodstream
What will prevent constipation
Eating lots of fibre-rich foods
(vegetables & wholemeal bread)
How does food move along the gut
muscles in the wall squeeze food, like squeezing toothpaste.
The wall of the small intestine contains
Tiny structures of villi (very thin)
