Q

Examples and how semantic memories are acquired

A

EX
- Things learnt at school

AQ
- Begin as episodic memories
- Transition to semantic as the memory loses association with the event so generalised to semantic

Q

Examples and how episodic memories are acquired?

A

EX
- Ride a bike

AQ
- Typically through repetition and practice as with less awareness they become automatic

Q

AO3 - Evidence from brain scans

A

P - The distinction between the 3 kinds of long term memory is supported by brain scans
E - For instance, Tulving (1994) got parts to perform various memory tasks while under the PET scanner and found different areas of the brain are active when different types of long term memory tasks are given
E - Episodic memory is associated with the hippocampus and temporal lobe. Semantic memory also relies on the temporal lobe. Procedural memory is associated with the cerebellum.
L - Supports view there is physical reality to the different types of LTM which is confirmed through research studies therefore supporting validity of the stores
