Hard vs Soft endpoints:

A

Hard:

  • Well defined and reliable
  • No subjectivity (objectively measured)
  • e.g. death. presence or absence of a particular symptom, lab measurements

Soft:

  • Difficult to define, subjective measures
  • e.g. degree of satisfaction with treatment, amount of pain
