Q
CRITICAL RACE THEORY
A
- This lens contends that racism is embedded in society’s attitudes and institutions and
therefore critical race theory looks at law and society through the lens of race - developed in the mid 1970’s as lawyers, legal scholars and activists realized
that the advances of the civil rights movements in the 1960’s were being stalled by
subtler forms of racism - This theory seeks to highlight the ways in which the application of the law is not applied equally across all racial groups and actually favours white people.
