1.3 The Principal Dimensions of a Ship Flashcards
Moulded surface
The inner dimensions of the hull, which are smooth in contrast to the outer surface.
Moulded dimensions
Dimensions taken from the moulded surface.
dimensions qualified as “extreme”
Dimensions taken from the outer surface of the hull.
Baseline
The lowest line perpendicular to the summer load waterline that goes through the lowest point of the vessel, where the x-axis starts.
Before dimensions you…
must have a reference waterline called load waterline, which usually is the designed summer load line.
The FPs lack of consistency is:
It is drawn on the outside of the stern (the outer surface?)
Length between perpendiculars, L_PP
Distance between FP and AP.
Length overall submerged, L_OS
Maximum length between the submerged hull parallell to the designed load line.
