Triangular Trade
Merchant Ships regularly followed a triangular trade or a three part route that connected North America, Africa, and Europe in various ways.
Mercantilism
The economic theory that a country’s wealth was determined by how much more is exported than imported.
Navigational Acts
A mercantilist policy between the 1650-1673, and there were established three rules for colonial trade.
- Trade from and to colonies should only be carried out by the english or the colonial people.
- All goods imported into the colonies, except for some easily spoiled goods had to pass through ports in England.
- special goods from the colonies could only be exported to England.
Salutary Neglect
England was normally careless in enforcing rules and regulations for the colonies.
- The Atlantic Ocean divided the British government from the colonies, so putting any power from London to it’s colonies was difficult.
Sir edmund andors
was sent from England to serve as a governer of the dominion of New England (new york and new jersey) he was so unpopular bc he raised taxes and limited town meetings, and revoked land titles.
Glorious revolution
was the overthrow of kings James the II in 1688 he got replaced by William and Mary, his fall bought the domain of new England to an end, and the colonies were operated seperatly like for example new York and new Jersey were once mixed up toghether to form domion of new england but it was seperated after this revolution.
New England confederation
A military alliance formed by 4 new England colonies, it had limited powers to act on frontier disputes ,the return of runaway servants , dealings w/ American Indians.
Metacomis War (King Philip’s war)
A war with American natives, colonists fighting against and with each other.
Bacon rebellion
Nathenial Bacon, a farmer snatched upon the grievances of the western farmers to lead a rebellion against Berkeley’s governments. Sir William Berkeley was the royal governor of Virginia who antagonized small farmers in Virginia’s western frontier because he failed to protect them from the natives. On the other side, bacon made tons of massacres against the natives on the frontier including the ones who had a good relationship with/ the government. there were a lot of problems after this conflict for example there was a class conflict between the wealthy and the poor, and there were also disputes between the natives and the settlers.
pueblo revolt
hundreds of natives united against the Spanish because of the encomeinda system and they were treated harshly by the Spanish.
Indentured servants
colonists who were poor and were servants to landowners and masters.
subsistence farming
where work was done by family and an occasional hired labor.
monetray system
British limited the colonists use of money, because it they didn’t limit it they would have inflation.
great awakening
a movement where people were saying that if you sin gid gets mad and if you don’t he will be happy Basically it tells us about the Old Testament. ( I think)
