Q

What are some of the different understanding of the Messiah?

A
  • Some Orthodox rabbis taught that the Messiah will not come until all Jews observe all the Mitzvot fully.
  • Some Jewish rabbis have believed they know when the Messiah will arrive. This particularly so in Ultra-Orthodox Jewish groups, such as Hasidic Jews.
  • Most Orthodox rabbis have followed the teaching of Maimonides that no one knows who the Messiah will be, other than God.
  • Many Reform Jews no longer believe in the idea that an individual Messiah will make the world perfect. They believe that it is up to an individual Jewish person to change the world, bringing the nations together, establishing peace and justice, just as the Tenakh predicts.
