Who was Anne Hutchinson?
She started the settlement of Portsmouth after she was kicked out of the Michigan Bay colony. She was put on trial because of her belief that women should have a say in government and should be religious leaders, too.
Who was Roger Williams?
He founded Rhode island, criticized the court for taking land from the Indians without paying, was then kicked out of the Michigan Bay colony, and later paid Indians for land and started a colony called province.
Who was Thomas Hooker?
He found in Connecticut. He left and Michigan Bay colony because he thought the government was too powerful. He made government more democratic and wrote the fundamental orders of Connecticut.
Who was John Winthrop?
He was the first governor of MBC

He captured new Amsterdam from Peter Stuyvesant without a single shot being fired. He also gave New Jersey to Lord Berkeley and Sir Carteret
Who was James Oglethorpe?
Founded Georgia. Did not want the colony to have large plantations, the colonists didn’t like it. The king soon took over and the whole colony was filled with large rice plantations.
Who were the Quakers?
They were the society of friends who made one of the largest religious groups in New Jersey. They also founded Pennsylvania
Who were the pilgrims?
They were one separate group that left England in the early 1600s escape persecution.
Who were the Puritans?
They were a Protestant group that wanted to purify, or reform the Anglican church.
Who was John Rolfe?
He married Pocahontas. Their marriage help keep peace between the Powhatan tribe and the English settlers.
Who was Pocahontas?
She married John Rolfe. She died three years later. After her death, war and fighting for 20 years started between the natives and English settlers.
Who was chief Tomochichi?
He was the Creek leader.
