Who was the one that explored America for the English, and what did he find?
John Cabot was the first one to explore America for the English and he didn’t find enough riches to spur migration.
What were the different reasons the Protestant religion fought back against the Catholics?
Religion, economy, rivalry
Who were the Puritans and what did they want?
They wanted to get rid of any remaining catholic elements in the Anglican church.
What role did Economics have on the hard times in England?
English nobles would rent their land out to tenant farmers to farm but there was a large demand for wool in the 1500s that led to the eviction of farmer.
What are joint-stock companies?
A combined venture between investors in the hope of obtaining a return on their investment of funds in the colony.
What is a stock?

What is “privateer” a codeword for, and what was their job?
privately owned ships license by the government to attack ships of other countries- to attack Spanish ships.
What is Jamestown
It is in virginia. Most of the colonists were townspeople and knew little about living in the woods or hunting. The Virginia company offered free land to anyone who worked for the colony for 7 years.

What was the protestant reformation?
A German monk named Martin Luther published an attack on the Church, accusing it of corruption. He called for a change or “reform” and was expelled from the Catholic church - also known as excommunicated, but his ideas continued to spread.
What economic challenges faced England during the 1500s?
There was a large demand for wool in the 1500s that led to the evictions of tenant farmers.
Why did England decide to join the rest of Europe to find colonies in the Americas?
They searched for religious freedom, economic opportunities, and political liberty.
